FAN OF KCR

Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao

Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, is  the founder of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), better known as KCR, is the current chief minister of Telangana. Rao is a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Gajwel Assembly constituency.

KCR had joined the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) in 1983 and unsuccessfully contested an Assembly election in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Later, he won four consecutive state elections from Siddipet. During 1987-1988, he was the Minister for Drought and Relief in TDP founder N T Rama Rao's Cabinet. In 1990, he was appointed the TDP convenor for Medak, Nizamabad, and Adilabad districts. In 1996, he was appointed the Minister for Transport in N Chandrababu Naidu's Cabinet. He also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly during 2000-2001.

In 2001, he left the TDP to form the TRS. Rao believed that the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh had been perpetually ignored and a separate state was the only solution. He joined hands with the Indian National Congress in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections on the condition that the Congress would support his bid for a separate state. The demand remained unfulfilled until a little before the end of the United Progressive Alliance government’s second term. Just before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, a separate state of Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh.

Subsequently, he led his party to victory in the first Assembly elections in the state and became its CM. Nine months prior to the completion of his term in office, Rao declared the second state elections in 2018 and subsequently won it to become the CM for a second time.

KCR defeated the grand alliance of the Congress, TDP, Telangana Jana Samithi and the Communist Party of India in the 2018 state polls. This boosted his morale significantly and now he could make a play at the Centre, should the Lok Sabha elections 2019 not deliver a clear majority to any one party.
